Erin's great subject of top fantasy foods last week stirred some fun follow-up thoughts in my mind. You will quickly see a theme to this list--sweets. I'm not going to lie, I like my sweet stuff. So for those of you who do too, here are some savory fantasy-inspired snacks.
3. Candied nuts (Redwall)
I'm not typically wild about nuts. They are a little boring, but add some vanilla, sugar, and cinnamon and I could snack on them all day. Simple and tasty, this treat featured in Brian Jacques's Redwall is also partly healthy.
2. The gray stuff (Beauty and the Beast)
"Try the gray stuff, it's delicious. Don't believe me, as the dishes!" I recently went to a Disney-themed movie night, and my cousin went all out with themed food, including "the gray stuff" from Beauty and the Beast. It involved Cool Whip, crumbled Oreo, and vanilla pudding. Dip in some graham cracker, and yum! I took some leftovers home, and mourned a little when it was gone.
1. Chocolate frogs (Harry Potter)
Let's face it. Chocolate is wonderful. Put it in a fun amphibian shape, add some wizarding facts and
magic, and that is pretty nifty stuff. Just hope it doesn't hop away. I love the idea of so many of the Harry Potter foods, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would be the chocolate frogs. And, hey, cocoa comes from a plant, so you're basically eating a salad.
What fantasy food ideas do you love?

I'll never think of chocolate frogs the same way again! : ) Funny! Thanks, Laura! I had no idea what the "gray stuff" was, either! : )
ReplyDeleteThanks! Good to hear, Erin!
DeleteSomehow I don't think they "gray stuff" they served in medieval France was made with the same ingredients. :) But if Lumiere said it's delicious, it *must* be! By the way, I'm glad to find another Redwall fan. My brother and I both love the series.

It’s very delicious! And, yes, I’m sure the one Belle had didn’t have Cool Whip and Oreos and all, lol. :)
DeleteHaha, this cracked me up Laura! I'm a big fan of sweets as well, but at least you picked healthy ones, like the chocolate that's practically a salad :) The "gray stuff" was such a creative choice, and the version your cousin made sounds amazing! I think my favorite Harry Potter food would be Bertie's Every Flavor Beans. It says a lot about J.K. Rowling's world-building that there are so many great foods to choose from!
ReplyDeleteI’m glad it did, thanks Laurie! Yes, I highly recommend the gray stuff. Ah, the Every Flavor Beans are such a good one too. She is so clever.
