Do you use Christmas lights? Do you prefer colored lights or white lights? Do you use Christmas lights outdoors? Do you decorate your yard?
Do you have a real or fake Christmas tree? Do you have any special or unique ornaments for your tree? For example: we have a Santa on an airplane and a pickle ornament.
What kinds of foods do you have around Christmas?
Do you have any traditions concerning presents? For example, oftentimes my family will have a Secret Santa system where everyone is given a budget to spend on someone else. And we open one present on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day, we take turns opening presents, usually going up in age or down in age. We vary it from year-to-year.
Do you get stocking stuffers?
What kinds of activities do you like to do before Christmas? Caroling? Ice-skating? Seeing Christmas lights?
Do you usually spend Christmas out of town or at home?
Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy the days leading up to Christmas!
This is a fun post! We have a fake Christmas tree, (due to allergies), we get one ornament per year from our grandma, and we have a white elephant gift exchange. We have tons more traditions as well. Speaking of Christmas, I'm reading The Dark is Rising now for the first time since I was little. I love it, and it takes place during Christmas, so it's really fun. I love Christmas. :)
ReplyDeleteWe're thinking of getting a fake tree next year; real trees are a lot of work :)
DeleteSounds like you have some fun traditions going on!
The Dark is Rising... it sounds interesting. I haven't heard of it.
Fun idea, Liz! We're still figuring out Christmas traditions since our kids are so young, but we're getting started! I prefer white lights, I think because we always had colored ones growing up and I wanted something different :) So far we've stuck with fake trees, with only lights and no ornaments the past few years in the hope that the boys won't destroy anything. We each open one present on Christmas Eve, too!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :) Oh, picking traditions sounds like fun!
DeleteAnd I can see why you'd omit ornaments if you have kids... we don't buy glass ones anymore for our family.
Huh. It's interesting that we both share that tradition.
I love Christmas! When I was growing up, my family always cut down a Christmas tree and decorated it while we listened to Engelbert Humperdinck and The Chipmunks records. We would do a "snack night" with pizza rolls and dips and other goodies the night before Christmas Eve while we watched A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim. And my mom still makes homemade pizza every Christmas Eve. Love these family traditions. <3
ReplyDeleteWow. Actually cut down a Christmas tree and everything, huh?
DeleteOoooh! Snack Night sounds like a ton of fun. Family traditions make it feel like Christmas, don't they?
