Your Turn: Reading Speed (Laurie)

My book release went really well - thank you so much to everyone who joined us for the blog tour! But now I'm in full-on catch up mode! I promised a friend I'd beta read her amazing book, but the timing worked out really tough in relation to Common's release date. So although I usually take a week or two to finish a book, in this case I'm opting for speed-reading!

But it got me thinking...what kind of pace do you read at? Are you someone who flies through a book in one day, or does it takes you weeks or even months to get through a book? If it depends, then what factors affect how quickly you read?

See you next time!
Laurie

  1. Glad the blog tour went well! As for reading speed... fast, slow, and everything in between. For me, reading speed depends on time, engagement, length, and priority. If I have the time and there isn’t something else I need to read first, I can fly thru a book in a few days or less. If I don’t have the time, another book has priority, or I’m not fully engaged with the book, it can longer (days, weeks, months...).

    1. I'm very similar - once in a while I fly through books, but typically it takes longer.

  2. I'm with KaLyn on this. My speed differs. If the book is engaging, I can finish it very quickly. But sometimes I lose interest, or life gets crazy. Then it takes longer to finish, Surprisingly, this past summer was so busy, I had trouble finding time to read. :-(

    1. I'm right there with both of you! Once in a while I get so drawn into a book that I set aside other things to just keep reading (including sleep...), but usually it takes a while.

  3. It depends! I go through fiction much faster than non-fiction. I like time to really process what the author is conveying to me in non-fiction, and really let it sink deep into my heart. Fiction, on the other hand, I devour. If I last more than one or two weeks on a fiction book, that's not good. It means I am really struggling with it. However, I have noticed it does take me longer to read a book on my kindle, but that's probably because I just don't prefer it over paperbacks.

    1. Thanks for commenting, Abi! I tend to take longer with non-fiction, too. Usually there's a lot less suspense! I think I'm actually faster with e-books because I can't peek ahead at all to get a sense for where the story is going - I just have to keep reading to find out what happens!
